Nāmaka
Nā-maka-o-Kahaʻi is a goddess of the sea, and a sister of Pele, the goddess lava. Hawaiian legends tell of the eternal struggles between these two sisters, which mirror the push and pull of fire and water.
When I saw a figure in the mist of Spouting Horn in Poipu, I interpreted her as the goddess of the sea, Nāmaka. This photo is not modified or faked in any way. The color in the sky is from an epic South Shore sunset.
(I have previously called this photo Mo`o Lady, but found Nāmaka to be more accurrate and respectful of Hawaiian storytelling.)
