Queen Emma ruled Hawaii with her husband, King Kamehameha IV, from 1856-1863. She was well loved by the people, and the hospital she started is still in operation on Oahu, called Queen’s Medical Center. This wave was breaking on the beach in front of one of her former residences on Kauai, near Spouting Horn.
